I need to know why people take the presciption drug methadone? I thought it was only for people who have past or present use the drug heroin

Initially people took methadone and was placed on whats called “methadone maintenance” when they want to come off heroine addiction to prevent them from having serious, sometimes fatal effects of withdrawal from heroine
We now use methadone as part of pain management in the caring of chronic pain patients. Methadone added as part of the “pain relief regiment” for the chronic pain patients has helped thousands of Americans combat pain and have a better quality of life.

“you should be able to tell the doctor, I want to wean down” — and the doctor should listen , i.e. “Start caring about us and not the money”
