My sister is a recovering heroin addict who is recently getting her life back on track.(please read on)?
She is on Methadone which seems to diminish her cravings for drugs, and she just gave birth on October 8th, 2008. My parents and I are doing everything possible to help her out, and are getting her old car registered again so that she can commute from her program to our house (which is about a 40 minute drive) so we can see our new addition to the family =] . Anyway, I am wondering if her having her old car back is a good idea seeing how the last time she had it was when she was using. She only had the car for about 3 or 4 months before my parents took it away from her due to her habits, but I still think that it could trigger her to relapse. I should probably mention that she is VERY bipolar which is the reason for her drug abuse in the first place. Should I try to trade in her car for something of the same value just to be safe? (The car is of no importance to her besides a means of transportation so she wouldn’t care.) Or would this be pointless? The car is a 99 nissan altima with 100+ miles and my dad just put about $1000 in it to fix it up to pass inspection. We don’t have much money to spend for a trade in. So to sum it up, should we trade it in to decrease the likelihood of relapse or would it be pointless?
I just want to add that 1: she needs a car to get to the clinic and all her doctors appointments, 2: methadone is truly the only thing that has helped her and i hate when people judge her for being on it when they don’t know how much it has helped her, and 3: she goes to group meetings all the time and she is born-again. I should have mentioned this before..sorry

Check to see if her program offers counseling to family members.
