can you stay off of drugs without NA? i was on alot of drugs for alot of yrs and i have been clean for 2 yrs?

cddub asked:

i was on everything from heroin to crack to methadone to xanax. i feel that i have been successful at getting clean. i did not do it traditionally. i didnt go to NA or any other rehab. i just finally believed in me and God. i guess what i’m asking here is your take on this? what do you think my chances for a job in the counseling field if i havent gone through NA? NA says doing the same things over and over again expecting the different results is insanity. well, i did something different this time and i really feel i have different results. what are your thoughts on this?

do strictly psychedelics, they’re an ass load safer and they’re a much better experience for the mind than anything else can give you.

I think your best bet is to get a degree in social services with a concentration on substance abuse and then use your experience of overcoming your addiction. But also what you lost because of your addiction and what you have gained,

First, great for you that you are clean J There are a lot of people that get and stay clean &/or sober without a 12-step program or alternate support system. I sure couldn’t have done it in the beginning and don’t believe I’d have the life I have today without some type of support system other then true grit.

If you want to go into counseling, chances are you will receive training that is not dependent on a 12-step program. Some familiarity with how they work might be a big help though since a lot of people you will help may not have the tools to live without using, When one’s life is centered around the getting and using of drugs and finding the ways and means to get more, God is not usually the first survival mechanism that comes in handy – even for the people who really and truly want to stop using.

In situations like this, I’m not sure how you’d propose other people try living every day without some type of alternative support system when their counselor is not available – there are lots other programs than NA & AA.

You definitely have the right attitude and I wish you well and think you could make a big difference in a lot of people’s lives.

Good for you!

In my experience NA is not particularly effective. It has a 2% success rate with people (that is a real statistic). But more realistically it is a 10% success rate because most people relapse (average 3 times) and go on to be fine..

And you have already done much of what NA does. You (i assume) admitted your addiction and that you could not control it. You have accepted something bigger than yourself.

What you are doing it apparently working. Most people do stop on there own (despite what you might hear) or they get therapy. And you have been clean for long enough that medications probably will not help.

And there is no rule that you can’t get a job in the counseling field unless you go to NA.

Simply put, if you are doing well and your life is in order then keep going forward. Why do NA when what you do now is working?
