What is the best way to get off opioid drugs?

You should ask a doctor, we are ordinary people. So… methadone maintenance, a little morphine, to narcotics, then taper off, then none.

In addition to the other answer on here, your relative probably needs to check into a medical treatment facility. If he is in active addiction, it could be dangerous if he attempts to “come down” on his own or without medical professionals present to help him through the process. Once he is clean of substances, he will need treatment to help him see why he uses drugs (other than the chemical dependency) and will need help setting up a support system.

Not all treatments cost an arm and a leg. Many states/cities have treatment centers that are non-profit (clients don’t pay anything). It may be more difficult to find a free medical treatment facility, but if you look for a non-medical facility you should be able to find one of the free treatment centers. Even then, the facility can send him to a psychiatrist for medication to help maintain sobriety.

What state does your relative live in?

Good luck – addiction is difficult, but very possible, even after 15 years. Just remember that your relative will need all the support he can get as he enters recovery.

Drug rehab center can help your relative get off addiction though it’’s not that easy especially when he just keep it for 15 years however it is quite good if he tried to.
