Who was that rock star? ?

Tonight I was in Pleasantville, NY, with my husband having a drink at an outdoor restaurant. A long haired, 50ish man came over to our table and plopped himself down to have a cigarette. He was wearing a “Freedom is not Free” t-shirt. He was slightly tipsy and started to complain about how smokers are the dinosaurs of the 21st century. Long story short, the guy confessed he used to be a heroin/methadone addict but that his only vice now was cigarettes. My husband overheard him talking about how he had enjoyed playing a recent gig with a Pink Floyd cover band which was so pleased to play with him that members “treated him like Chuck Berry.” As he was going on I realized that this guy looked familiar. My husband, who is from England also said, as we left, ” I think that guy used to be someone.”
I thought the same. He said his name is Al and he was came from Bronx. He must now be living in the Pleasantville area. It is haunting me that this this dude could have been a major rocker whom I worshiped as a teen. Any tips ?
