how can a baby in the womb get hiccups if they aren’t breathing yet? just curious?

Some please help! I had chronic pain and was on methadone NOT FOR DRUG ADDICTION, and I accidentally got pregnant at 35 mgs. I dropped 20 mgs in my first trimester without a problem and I want to get as low as possible. I am terrified my baby will be born hooked on this narcotic. I see a high risk obgyn, but between visits i get horrible guilt for not aborting. I just want a healthy baby! I went to the methadone support sight, but all those people were drug addicts who told me I would kill my baby or start doing smack as soon as i stopped the methadone, even while pregnant! Are there ANY nurses or docs out there who might know… If i’m 16 weeks pregnant and only taking 16 mgs, is there ANY HOPE that the baby won’t be addicted? I know 30% of babies to meth dependant moms are not addicted, is there any hope since I’m at such a low dose? I wish I had never taken this horrible medicine, you can’t “just stop” you have to slowly decrease!
I hope to be at 0 mgs in about 10 weeks but i heard if you go too fast you can miscarry

Hey-Been on Meth for 2 years after foolishly getting stuck on heroin. I was detoxing and down to 35 mgs when I found out that I accidentally got pregnant. My husband and I def did not plan this! I am now 8 weeks pregnant and down to 26 mgs, dropping 3 a week. My reasons for continuing the detox: I would rather have a miscarriage than a baby born addicted. I would rather not have another baby (have one healthy beautiful daughter 5 yrs) than have one with child services in the hospital or “monitering” us, I am ready to be off meth. I have seen that most reasons in scientific papers for advocating mothers to be to stay ON meth while preg is that they think I will run out and jam a dirty needle in my arm the second my detox is over! My question is, has anyone out there done this? I am nervous because I am hiding the pregnancy b/c if I tell, they could stop my detox and I am buying my own vitamins b/c I am afraid if I go to an OB/Gyn b4 I’m off meth, they will report me to social services!
I am completely against letting an organization whose sole purpose is to break up poorer families anywhere near me or my child(ren?), yet I can’t keep faking ectopic symptoms at the ER to get checked out! The detox itself is okay so far, it is slow, and I’ve got such bad morning sickness that I feel lousy anyway and chicken soup works miracles. Please, no bashers or people who stereotype, just answers from people who can support my decision or have been there! I have no one to talk to about this and it is a little scary. I want to keep my baby, but only if it is healthy and drug-free!
oh, and NO, not on any other drugs (obviously), i got on herion after I was the victim of a violent crime, had no idea about withdrawls… A blip on my life radar, so to speak!
PS-seen a lot of other women on methadone’s questions getting answers like “shame on you, junkie, CPS should steal your baby” This is Not an ideal situation, of course, but I have made the decision to detox and come what may, so that I can have a healthy baby, get off this life-controling medication, and I can avoid people like that! PLEASE someone who has been there! Please don’t make rude remarks about my daughter, she is my life, attends private school, we have a lovely home, I have sought therapy for my poor response to my attack, etc… Methadone is prescribed for people who want to reclaim their lives, and then once they are stable, they should detox, which I was and am continuing to do. Methadone is generally fine for pregnancy, it is after the pregnancy when the poor child must endure withdrawls, which I will not be the cause of! Slow detoxes rarely cause much discomfort let alone fetal distress… so please, no nasty comments or assumptions about my child’s life! Looking for HELP and ADVICE!

Uh, yes, she has prenatal care (??), and rather than just ABORT, her and her husband decided that she come off the pain management med for the baby, but since you know so much, you should know that you can’t just quit a medication like that.
DUDE, it’s not ME, and she is on methadone for CHRONIC DEBILITATING BACK PAIN, not for like smack or something. Does anyone read these questions???

My sister got sciatica with her first child, so bad that she gets “stuck” when she lies flat on her back and every way she moves causes really horrible nerve spasms. She wound up on methadone (doc was eventually investigated by govt for prescription fraud!) and desperately wanted off, but found out the hard way that she can’t just stop. So she began to detox from 60 mgs, then got accidentally pregnant at 35 mgs. Decided rather than just abort to continue, with an OB-GYN’s approval, to continue detox (2mgs per week). So far, so good, down to 16 mgs. But she’s nervous if her baby will have any harm from this, most docs say things should be okay, but it’s a drug! Also, her sciatica is getting bad again, and she gets “stuck” now in positions that used to be okay. Has anyone detoxed and had baby? How can back be helped w/o narcotics?

NJ has proposed a law that would take away a woman’s right to slowly STOP taking this powerful medication while pregnant. While stopping methadone is not always best for women with severe heroin addiction, it is the best course for many other pregnant women on methadone who wish to keep their babies from being born addicted or suffering methadone caused complications. It seems the state is trying to protect severe addicts from being forced off methadone, but if this is passed it will mean that the rest of the women on methadone who become pregnant will HAVE to have addicted children! NJ is waiting to hear from people on this issue… does anyone have any comments about this? Would anyone like to share or just state their outrage? I’m trying to fight this….
come on NO one is even reading the question!!!! SOOO not about me, this is about the state of NJ and laws they are trying to pass that I, as a mother, want to fight!
NO child should be FORCED to be born drug addicted if the mother is willing to stop taking the drug in a safe way!
no one has the right to tell these women that they CANNOT stop methadone, just to “protect” a few women from clinics that would force them to detox.
